MESSAGE #387 THE THREE TOUGHEST THINGS…

Today’s message is especially dedicated to the great Darren Ventre.

The three hardest tasks in the world are
neither physical feats nor intellectual
achievements, but moral acts:

To return love for hate,
To include the excluded,
and
To say “I was wrong.”

MESSAGE #386 A PSYCHIC PREDICTION…

Today’s message is especially dedicated to the great Michael Whaley.

I have a feeling that someone reading this blog today wants to do something great with their life.

Many people want to do great things with their lives but not many people do – often times because of fear of getting out of their comfort zones or not knowing how to start.

What do you want to be known for?

At the end of your life, what do you want said about you?

If you are scared to start something, feel the fear and do it anyway.

If you don’t know how to start, seek out someone who has already successfully done it and become their mentee.

Let me put it to you this way:

All the ability is already inside you, you just have to find the right strategy and take action.

All of the athletes in Beijing know what it takes to become an Olympic athlete.

I don’t believe that they were “born” to be in the Olympics.

I believe that they were “trained” to be in the Olympics.

So if you want to become a great chef, start training.

If you want to become a great golfer, start training.

If you want to become a great sculptor, start training.

“Don’t wait. The time will never be just right.”

MESSAGE #385 TAKE ONE MORE STEP…

Congratulations to the great Jake Myers in Belgium for winning his latest tournament.

A hill is not too hard to climb
Taken one step at a time.
One step is not too much to take;
One try is not too much to make.
One step, one try, one song, one smile
Will shortly stretch into a mile.
And everything worthwhile was done
By small steps taken one by one.
To reach the goal you started for,
Take one step more…take one step more.

-James Dillet Freeman, One More Step

MESSAGE #384 WHAT YOU DON’T KNOW ABOUT MICHAEL PHELPS…

After teaching an 8am lesson this morning, I felt that I should workout. I didn’t really feel like it, but knew that I should. Guess what?

I just did it. I told myself that I would just do a light workout. I ended up doing a full workout and felt great.

The whole world saw Micheal Phelps win his eighth gold medal last night. The whole world knows that it was history in the making. But here’s what the world doesn’t know…

The races were probably the easiest thing Phelps has done.

Let me put it this way, Michael Phelps works out every day. He works out HARD every day. It’s painful. Do you think that he ever feels like NOT working out? I’m sure that many times he doesn’t feel like it, but does it anyway. He doesn’t let himself negotiate with himself not to train. That’s what winners do.

I’m sure that many people now want to become the next Michael Phelps. Developing the physical skills of Phelps will take a long time, but you can instantly become just as great as him by having the same mental toughness and attitude that he has.

Do the right thing…whether you feel like it or not.

MESSAGE #383

“Don’t wait until you feel like taking a positive action. Take the action and then you will feel like doing it.”
-Zig Ziglar

MESSAGE #382 TIGER WOODS IN A SPEEDO?!

Well, Michael Phelps has done it. All his hard work has paid off. Can words describe what this U.S. Olympic Swimming sensation has done in Beijing? Not really, but NBC’s Dan Hicks put it best…

“Phelps is Tiger (Woods) in a Speedo.”

I agree. Nobody works harder and nobody is more mentally tough. And Phelps is just as dominating in the pool as Tiger is on the course. And they both have powerful strokes.

“There are so many uncanny ways that Phelps reminds me of Tiger, it’s scary,” Hicks said during a media call this week from Beijing. “If Tiger is over a putt,” Hicks said, “and he has to make it, I watched him at the U.S. Open and he made it. When Phelps needs to have some sort of magical touch to win a gold medal and get it done, he does the same thing.”

Let the games continue…

Congratulations, Michael Phelps.

MESSAGE #381 BE DECISIVE…

Today’s message is especially dedicated to the great Sandy Zio.

“Some people are so indecisive that their favorite color is plaid.”

I know people who have new ideas all the time, but they don’t have any direction. I know people who say they want to be a chef one day and a web designer the next. What you need to do is make a decision. Figure out what you love and what you’re good at and combine the two. Put all your energies into following your purpose and path. If something doesn’t relate to your purpose, don’t do it. Unless it’s something like paying your taxes.

Remember, the purpose of life is to discover your gifts. The meaning of life is to give those gifts away.

We’re only on this Earth a short time, so why not make the most of it?

At the end of your life, do you want to say “I’m glad I did” or “I wish I had.”

MESSAGE #380 REAL DIFFICULTIES

Today’s message is especially dedicated to the great Natasha Sastri, tennis player at West Windsor-Plainsboro High School North.

The most important aspect of sports and life is the mental side. But how often do you practice being mentally tough or put yourself in pressure situations?

I like to call it mental cross-training – if you get nervous before a competition, give a talk in front of your class or co-workers. It’s the same type of pressure. If you get used to performing under pressure, your results will come as a by-product.

Many people stress themselves out BEFORE anything ever happens. They look at the negative side of things. When you do this, guess what happens? You increase the chances of it actually happening.

You see, the real difficulties in life can be overcome, but it’s the imaginary ones that are unconquerable.

You will never totally get rid of negative feelings but you can change your reaction to them. You can accept them and focus on something positive. Negative thoughts aren’t bad as long as you don’t let them affect your performance.

Focus on what you want to happen instead of what you don’t want to happen.

MESSAGE #379 TENNIS AND LIFE

You cannot learn very much about tennis from life, but you can learn a lot about life from tennis.

-Ed Tseng

The challenges you face in tennis are the same challenges you face in life. You need to perform under pressure, set goals, focus on the process not the product, stay positive and learn from your mistakes. If you can succeed in tennis, you can succeed in life.

MESSAGE #378 RITUALS…

Michael Phleps does the same thing before each race. Some call it the “condor.” He does it three times.

The reason why Phelps does this is because it warms him up, but also because it helps him stay focused. He does it consistently, so he can perform consistently.

If we have good rhythm and timing, we perform at a high level, but if we change things up, we become inconsistent. Anyone can perform well once, but the great ones do it consistently. It gives them the confidence to win.

“Besides pride, loyalty, discipline, heart and mind, confidence is the key to all the locks.”

-Joe Paterno
