MESSAGE #259 ALTERNATIVE MEDICINE

Today’s message is especially dedicated to the great Jessica Mueller.

Acupuncture (from Latin acus, “needle”, and pungere, “prick”) is a technique of inserting and manipulating needles into different points on the body towards the goal of providing pain relief and therapy. This ancient technique originated in China.

I asked Jessica A. Mueller, M.S., L. Ac. what she felt the top five benefits of acupuncture were. Here’s what she had to say…

1. Acupuncture is a cost-effective, drug-free, and safe alternative to invasive procedures and toxic drugs.

2. Acupuncture improves circulation, promoting pain relief, release of toxins from the body, and tissue healing.

3. Restores balance and optimal function, providing opportunities for profound change.

4. Balances emotions and contributes to an empowering sense of well-being.

5. Acupuncture supports the immune system providing disease prevention and maintenance of wellness.

In a fast-paced world where everyone is so quick to be “drugged up” or wait until they have problems before they take preventative action, acupuncture could be the answer.

MESSAGE #258 POWERFUL

This gentleman attached to an oxygen machine is part of Young@Heart, a singing group for seniors. It keeps them young at heart and adds meaning to their lives. Here they perform an amazing rendition of “Fix You” by Coldplay. You’ll listen to it more than once.

Thanks for checking in.

MESSAGE #257 ARE YOU A LEARNER?

“I don’t divide the world into the weak and the strong, or the successes and the failures, those who make it or those who don’t. I divide the world into learners and nonlearners.

There are people who learn, who are open to what happens around them, who listen, who hear the lessons. When they do something stupid, they don’t do it again. And when they do something that works a little bit, they do it even better and harder the next time. The question to ask is not whether you are a success or a failure, but whether you are a learner or a nonlearner.”

MESSAGE #256 PLAY BALL!

Nobody ever said “Work ball!”

Have fun!

Last night was the home opener for the Trenton Thunder, Double-A minor league team for the New York Yankees. The weather was perfect and the smell of peanuts and Cracker Jack was in the air. I had a press pass so I was on the field and in the dugout snapping shots. I hope you enjoy my photographs. Don’t take life so seriously…play ball! Below are a few of my favorite baseball quotes…

“A hot dog at the ballgame beats roast beef at the Ritz.”
-Humphrey Bogart

“I see great things in baseball. It’s our game – the American game. It will take our people out-of-doors, fill them with oxygen, give them a larger physical stoicism. Tend to relieve us from being a nervous, dyspeptic set. Repair these losses, and be a blessing to us.”
-Walt Whitman

“Sandy’s fastball was so fast, some batters would start to swing as he was on his way to the mound.”
-Jim Murray, on Sandy Koufax

“Life will always throw you curves, just keep fouling them off… the right pitch will come, but when it does, be prepared to run the bases.”
-Rick Maksian

MESSAGE #255 THE GREATEST MESSAGE

Today’s message is especially dedicated to the inspiring Randy Pausch.

By now, most of you have seen the great lecture by Randy Pausch, but if for some reason you haven’t, do yourself a favor and PLEASE watch it now.

Dr. Pausch was interviewed by Diane Sawyer last night. The thing that stuck with me is when he said that the greatest lesson about parenting is from airline stewardesses…

“Put your own oxygen masks on first.”

Now this doesn’t JUST apply to parenting; it applies to ALL relationships. You need to take care of yourself first, THEN you can help others.

How can you DO good if you don’t FEEL good?

How can you make someone else happy if YOU’RE not happy?

Focus on quality not quantity.

MESSAGE #254 MUSIC THERAPY

Today’s message is especially dedicated to the great Melissa Sapio.

One way to use the power of music is to listen to it when things aren’t going your way. So hit play, close your eyes and know that “every little thing’s…gonna be alright.”

MESSAGE #253 WE’RE NOT IN KANSAS ANYMORE

Today’s message is especially dedicated to the great Mario Chalmers and the Kansas Jayhawks.

In last night’s NCAA title basketball game, the Kansas Jayhawks were down 9 points with 2 minutes 12 seconds left in the game. But then something amazing happened…Memphis missed 3 of 5 free throws that would have put the game out of reach. Then, with 10.8 seconds left, Kansas with no time-outs and trailing by three hustled down the court…

Collins hands to Chalmers and with 2.1 seconds left, Mario Chalmers sinks a three-pointer with nothing but net to tie the game…the crowd goes wild!

Kansas went on to win their first championship in 20 years in overtime, 75-68.

Memphis coach, John Calipari wasn’t worried about his team’s worst free-throw percentage (59%). He said they don’t have to be good because they would always come through when the stakes were highest. Guess what folks? The stakes don’t get any higher than the NCAA Championship Game.

The top 3 messages I got from this game are:
1. Don’t get over-confident no matter how well you are doing
2. Work on your weaknesses as well as developing your strengths
3. The best team doesn’t always win…the team that PLAYS best always wins

Congratulations, Kansas.

MESSAGE #252 NOT INTO IT…

Today’s message is especially dedicated to the great Marc Wallace.

I woke up today under the weather. Instantly I thought, “I just want to stay in bed all day.” But I didn’t ACT according to how I FELT. I just got up before I could negotiate with myself to stay in bed. I took the correct action without thinking about it. I didn’t have to blog but I am committed.

Exceptions shatter dreams.

So I DECIDED to have a great day and you know what?…I actually feel pretty good right now. If I wait until I FEEL great to have a great day, I would have to wait a while but when I CHOOSE to have a great day, after a while I begin to FEEL great.

“It’s easier to act yourself into a way of feeling than it is to feel yourself into a way of acting.”
