Message # 123 “Winning Isn’t Everything”
This message is dedicated to Professor C. Richard Snyder.
One of the greatest coaches of all time said one the most famous quotes of all time…
Vince Lombardi of the Green Bay Packers said, “Winning isn’t everything, it’s the only thing.”
Now, many of you know this quote. Many of you use it in school, athletics, business, relationships, etc. For those of you that fall under this category, I’m here to tell you…
VINCE LOMBARDI WAS WRONG!
I’m sorry, I meant, Vince Lombardi was misquoted. After Lombardi was quoted, he said, “I wish the hell I’d never said the damn thing…I meant having a goal. I sure as hell didn’t mean for people to crush human values and morality.”
Don’t get me wrong, it’s good to win, but it’s not the ONLY thing. It shouldn’t be your main focus. Not only is that too much pressure, it will be harder to get the results. You should focus on trying your best, having a good strategy (make adjustments if it’s not working), learn, and have fun. If you do those things, the winning will come. The pressure will be off.
In every game and match someone loses 50% of the time; it’s the great ones that take losing as just results and learning experiences.
Winners and losers feel the same feelings, but they take different action.
And next time somebody quotes Vince Lombardi, tell them that that’s not what he meant.
Thanks for reading.
