MESSAGE #1656 HAPPY PI DAY!

einstein

Well, it’s Pi Day again (3.14), March 14 here in Princeton, New Jersey. It is also the great Albert Einstein’s 134th birthday, a former Princetonian. All over town there are math contests, pi eating contests, tours and Einstein look-alikes.

I know what you’re thinking…what does this have to do with me?

EVERYTHING.

Most people would call Albert Einstein a genius.

Not Albert.

Here’s how he saw himself…

I have no special talent. I am only passionately curious.”

When things go wrong, do you get frustrated or fascinated? Do you get irritated or intrigued?

Small children are curious. Everything is full of wonder and excitement to them. And they tend to stay in the present moment.

My friend, Garret Kramer once told me on the phone, “A lot of people say, ‘Live today as if it were your last.’ I say, live today as if it were your FIRST.”

I really like that.

If you live today as if it were your first, you would see and experience things with fresh eyes. You are more in the moment, have more satisfaction, and perform at a higher level. Your mind is clear and you have access to your wisdom, instincts and intuition.

Many people live in the past, and look for the answers in the past. You won’t find them there.

Here’s another Einstein quote…

We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.”

ST = SR (Same Thinking = Same Results)

NT = NR (New Thinking = New Results)

Don’t get me wrong, you don’t need to change your thinking…as a matter of fact, you couldn’t if you tried. New thinking happens on its own when your mind is clear.

When your thinking changes, your experience changes…this is the nature of life. When you truly realize this, you will operate more with a clear mind, and that is when you will experience more peak performances.

Happy Pi Day everyone!

MESSAGE #1634 HAPPY PI DAY!

Today is Pi Day (3.14).

Today is also Albert Einstein’s birthday, so the whole Princeton area is going insane. There are pi fights, pi eating contests, all sorts of mental olympics and even a geekiest geek contest!

Since Princeton is going “insane” on Pi Day, I want you to go through your day thinking about one of my favorite Einstein quotes…I know I will especially if I drive by his house on Mercer Street today.

Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.

Do you keep doing the same thing?

Are you complaining about your results?

Then change what you’re doing on the field, in the classroom, in your relationships and at the office.

To get what we have never gotten, we must do what we have never done.

Happy Pi Day.

MESSAGE #1476 A MESSAGE FROM EINSTEIN

I am sitting here in my office, just a few miles from downtown Princeton, where Albert Einstein used to call home. I often drive by his house and think about his philosophy and work. Here is my Einstein quote of the day:

I must be willing to give up what I am in order to become what I will be.

Do you want to be comfortable, or do you want to be great?

Be comfortable being uncomfortable.

MESSAGE #1328 PI DAY

Well, today is Pi Day (3.14), March 14.

It is also Albert Einstein’s birthday, so it is fitting to tell you my favorite Einstein quote…

Not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted.

How does this quote apply to sports and life? Leave your comments below.

MESSAGE #962 A SPECIAL DAY

Well,  today is Pi Day (3.14) and Albert Einstein’s birthday.

I spent 9am-5pm on the tennis court and worked out with some of my high school players, so Day 4 of my 21-Day Challenge is complete.

And today’s blog message is a collection of my favorite Einstein quotes…enjoy.

Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.

A man should look for what is, and not for what he thinks should be.

A person who never made a mistake never tried anything new.

Any man who reads too much and uses his own brain too little falls into lazy habits of thinking.

I have no special talent. I am only passionately curious.

Imagination is everything. It is the preview of life’s coming attractions.

Not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted.

MESSAGE #781 DON’T COUNT ON IT…

“Not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted.”
-ALBERT EINSTEIN

Kim Clijsters won.

Juan Martin del Potro won.

They weren’t supposed to.

Clijsters had only played two tournaments since coming back from a two and a half year layoff.

del Potro had never won a Grand Slam or ever beaten Roger Federer.

Not everything that can be counted counts.

On paper, Clijsters was unseeded. An unseeded woman had never won the US Open.

Roger Federer had not lost a match in the US Open since 2004. But he lost to del Potro.

There comes a point in a match (and life) that you start to believe that something is possible.

It is then that anything is possible.

“When I broke his (Federer’s) serve for first time, I start to believe in my game,” del Potro said.

There is no statistic for belief. There is no statistic for desire.

Not everything that counts can be counted.

del Potro started off the match obviously nervous. He did not play to his potential in the first set. Federer won 6-3. I posted a comment on Facebook…

“Fed vs del Potro…Fed is too tough, but you NEVER know, esp if del Pot goes all out…”

No one believed me.

Am I psychic? No, so what happened?

At the beginning of the match, del Potro was not playing his game. He was nervous and he looked nervous. He was holding back.

The worst thing you can do on the tennis court is to hold back. I knew if del Potro fought through his nerves and went all out like in his other matches, he had a chance.

Even if he went all out and lost, that would be better than holding back and winning.

Take a moment and think about something that you’re holding back in; something that you don’t want to do.

I don’t feel like going to the gym before work.
I don’t feel like doing the bills.
I don’t feel like studying.

Now go and do it anyway…go all out today!

Thanks for reading.
